Shabu Shabu House, Los Angeles, CA

image

Normally when I’m standing in a line this long, I’m hoping to leave with a pair of sneakers. (Un)Fortunately, this was not one of those times. Every time I’m in Little Tokyo, Shabu Shabu House has a line literally out the door, and if you don’t get their early to put your name on the list, you won’t get in. Of course, I showed up early to find out what all the hype was about, and I was hungry.

On The Hunt: Nike Air Max 90 Classic "Foot Locker Exclusive"

image

I haven’t actually had to hunt for a pair of shoes for a while…until these. This particular Nike Air Max 90 Classic was strictly a European release last year, but found there way to the US as a Foot Locker Exclusive this past month. I didn’t actually know they hit the states until the homie ILNOJ tweeted a pic a few weeks ago. That’s what started my hunt.

Bruxie - Orange, CA

image

I’m always looking to try something new, so when I heard of a place serving Gourmet Waffle Sandwiches, I was on my way. BRUXIE is a small spot serving up BIG flavors sandwiched in a waffle. With my love of all things breakfast and sandwiches, of course I had to try the Bacon, Egg, and Cheddar. It was everything I’d dreamed of it being, definitely a great first choice.

Full review + more pics after the jump.

Personal Favorites: Melon Bars

image

Nike Air Max 1 “Skull Pack”

Melon Bars are one of the greatest foods ever invented. Simply put, they’re frozen melon flavored goodness in a bar that melts in your mouth. You should be able to find these at your local Asian market, except for Seafood City. They don’t sell ‘em there…I checked. But, I picked this one up at Nijiya Market across from RIF.

Go find them, treat yourself to a whole box, and enjoy. If you didn’t know, now you know!

Album Review: The Original Dom Kennedy

image

DOM KENNEY - PLAYAS PUNCH by FoodWithSole

“Check 1, Check 2/ Damn I’m really makin’ moves/ Don’t nothin’ go better than a taco and a brew”

Dom kills it right out the gates yet again. Like everyone else, I’ve been waiting for new music from Dom for a minute, but then again it’s always quality over quantity with him. This man’s FREE music has been destroying everything on the RADIO for years, and The Original Dom Kennedy mixtape is no different.

You Know What They Say About Big Shoes...

image

Puma Suede Size 45 (LEFT) and Nike Court Force “Real Mad Hectic” Size 10 (RIGHT).

…Big SOCKS! While I was in San Diego, I also made a stop by Sportie LA. That’s where I found this GIANT Puma Suede. I had no idea they had a location out there. During the early 2000’s, the Sportie LA in Melrose was one of the premier sneaker boutiques in Southern California.

Village Pizzeria, Coronado, CA

White Pizza With Spinach and Ricotta.

While I was out in San Diego this weekend, I also made a stop on Coronado Island to get pizza from here, Village Pizzeria. Many pizzerias claim to have that East coast taste, but this place actually delivered.

Attic, San Diego

image

Everyone knows that Attic in Buena Park is the epicenter of ‘streetwear’ in Orange County, but they also have a second location in beautiful San Diego. Attic SD is one of the premier sneaker/apparel stores in the Gaslamp Quarter, and carries all of the same top brands that Attic in Buena Park does. Over the weekend, I finally got a chance to check out the SD location for myself.

Get Stabbed

image

Often overlooked, the Nike Air Stab is like the awkward step-cousin of the Air Max Family. Originally released in 1988, the shoe gets its name from the two ‘Fork Stabs’ on the visible air window, and was one of the first shoes to feature Nike’s footbridge stability technology on the midsole.

Stay Hungry Skateboard Series

image

This Stay Hungry series of skateboards by Jonah Miller for RAW is something I definitely can appreciate. Seven Ply Maple Construction, Ebony Stained Top Veneer, Manufactured in the United States, AND most importantly, they look like freakin’ sandwiches! The set is available now at RAW’s online store for $150.

Tiffy's Family Restaurant, Anaheim

Banana Split (objects in picture are larger than they appear)

If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, chances are you’ve at least driven past Tiffy’s. They are best known for their homemade ice cream, so this past weekend when I was in the OC I had to stop by and get a Banana Split.  It definitely hit the spot, and of course, I couldn’t leave without also having a slice of their freshly baked Apple Pie (pic after the  jump). Enjoy.

Nike Sportswear x Steven Alan

image

After my meeting at Nike last week, they blessed me with a pair of these. Tier Zero Nike Air Toki’s designed by New York designer Steven Alan. I love the “Chukka” silhouette and have always liked the Air Toki model, and I couldn’t have asked for a better first pair. The details on this collaboration are incredible. Hit the jump for a full break down.

Nike Stays Winning

image

Gears were set in motion this week that will greatly affect my life in the near future. Thanks to some good ol’ fashioned hard work and the consideration of an awesome friend, I had a meeting here yesterday. Crazy, right?! I can’t say much about what went down, but I’ll just leave you with this,

Weekly Rotation

image

Whether it’s 5 pairs or 15 pairs, everyone has a weekly rotation*. This past week, I’ve been busy to say the least, and I let my rotation go a little deeper than usual. This beautiful sight is what has amassed in the corner of my room. Definitely time for some cleaning and to bring out some new stuff…Then do it again…

*[Weekly Rotation: noun. an array of various sneakers worn throughout the week before cleaning them and returning to boxes for storage until next use.]

Dale Talde x DQM: Family Meal Presents Bodega

image

This past weekend, Dale Talde brought his pop-up restaurant concept Bodega to life, and transformed DQM, New York into a fine dining experience. The picture above is so significant of what “Eat Good. Stay Fresh.” is all about. People enjoying a beautiful dinner created by a sneaker lover, surrounded by stacks of shoe boxes and fitted’s. It can’t get much better.

If you haven’t checked out the interview I did with Dale last month yet, click here to give it a read.

Sancho's Tacos, Huntington Beach

image

There were a lot of reasons why I wanted to come back to Cali, but to be honest, 2 big ones were the Mexican food and the beaches. So, what better way to spend a day than to enjoy some tacos on the coast. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Sanchos Tacos, and finally got the chance to try it out for myself. Sancho did not disappoint…
