Next Stop, Wing Stop

“She thinking folic, I’m thinking Wing Stop
Feening lemon pepper, I got my thing cocked”

Rick Ross ft. Gucci Mane - MC Hammer by FoodWithSole

When I heard that Rick Ross line, I couldn’t help but head straight to a Wing Stop. Even Ricky Rozay can appreciate quality wings. Wing Stop ranks right up there with the Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings, as far as wing franchises go. They have a good variety of flavors including, Atomic, Cajun, Original Hot, Mild, Hickory Smoke BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Parmesan, Hawaiian, and Terriyaki. My favorites are the Garlic Parmesan and the Lemon Pepper. Their fries are good too, but only when you eat them there fresh. I wouldn’t recommend getting them to go, unless you like soggy fries. What else can be said? Wing Stop is just good quality chicken wings, and the food speaks for itself. Rick Ross knows.

Mission

image

I love my sneakers like I love my food
All different types, different flavors, depending on my mood
From Nike’s to Converse, and chicken to burgers
French fries and tacos
and Jordan’s I got those
So many shoes I can’t decide
Always stay fresh and buy what you like
With shoes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder
and with food, they say your tastes will change as you get older
But I know 2 things for sure that will always be true
I will love my shoes no matter how old or new
And if you feel the same this site is dedicated to you
For those that love to eat
just as much as they love what’s on their feet
I’m sure you’ll agree
Something new, yet classic, that won’t get old
Welcome to Food With Sole

August Heat Wave

Though many may pass on this release since this colorway was just retro’d 2 years ago in the 9/14 CDP, the Jordan IX has always been one of my favorites. And you definitely can’t go wrong with the OG white/black/red colorway. These are scheduled to release August 7 for a retail of $150.

image

The Olympic colorway of the Jordan VII will make an appearance this Summer in the form of the “For the Love of the Game” series. These are set to release August 13.

image

Though no release date has been confirmed as of yet, the Jordan XIII Premio of the Bin 23 Collection is expected to release sometime in August, considering the Jordan II and IX of the Bin 23 Collection were released in April and June, respectively.

Seals & Croft - Summer Breeze by FoodWithSole

Over the weekend, I took a refreshing break from civilization as we know it, put the laptop and phone away, and went on a camping trip. If there’s any sure thing that comes from camping, it’s good old-fashioned American eats. And bug bites, definitely bug bites. But itching aside, there is something truly satisfying about cooking your meals over an open fire. My menu over the weekend consisted of essentially burgers, hot dogs, eggs, various combinations of the three, and S’mores. The weekend was filled with laughs, good food, and all around great times. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that it’s OK to take a break and get away from your norm, and just enjoy life, even if it is just for the weekend.

Not For Nothing

“Gourmet is a brand that truly defies categorization.” Simple and true. Their main influence comes from their Italian-American background and the Italian tradition of men’s wear being tailored of the finest fabrics and of the best materials. They take this idea, and revolutionize it to apply to modern styles.

Lasagna Sandwich

image

While KFC’s Double Down caused a commotion across the country last year, something very different is causing a ruckus across the pond. Tesco supermarkets, in Britain, is releasing what they claim to be the first-ever commercial lasagna sandwich. The sandwich consists of two thick slices of bread and a filling of diced beef in a tomato and herb sauce layered with cooked pasta sheets and a creamy cheddar, ricotta and mayonnaise dressing. Taking a comfort food like lasagna and putting in sandwich form, so you could eat it on the go sounds like a delicious idea. Although, I do think it would be more appetizing if they used garlic bread instead. Regardless, at 2 pounds (about $3.50 US), I’m sure it will be a hit among Britain’s late night snackers, and hungry traveler’s alike. With KFC’s Double Down, and now this, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time until the next new and crazy snack concoction is invented.

If you need something to suffice your Lasagna Sandwich cravings now, my girlfriend uses this simple recipe from Food Network.

Lasagna Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients:
-2 slices bread
-4 thin slices of Canadian bacon
-1 slice mozzarella cheese
-1 Tbsp pizza sauce
-1 Tbsp sour cream mix, recipe follows
-Butter for grilling

Directions:
To create the sandwich, spread sour cream miz on one slice of bread
and the other slice with the pizza sauce. Layer cheese and Canadian bacon
on initial slice and cover with the second slice of bread. Butter the outside
of the sandwich and grill till golden brown on both sides

Sour Cream Mix:
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 Tbsp. minced fresh onion
- 1 tsp. minced fresh garlic
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp. each salt and pepper
Combine all ingredients, mixing well and let set for 1/2 hour in the refrigerator to mesh the flavors

Stussy LV x Slider Truck

image

Catered by none other than Las Vegas’ own Slider Truck, Stussy Las Vegas celebrated their 2 year anniversary today. I picked up the exclusive Stussy 2 Year Anniversary shirt and, of course, ate some sliders. At first, I was a little disappointed when I found out that the Slider truck was ONLY serving special Stussy Sliders for the event, nothing from the regular menu. That was until I tried the Stussy Sliders, which consisted of teriyaki-marinated sirloin steak, grilled pineapple, melted provolone, and crispy fried onions, drizzled with a teriyaki glaze. It was perfect. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the flavors just worked great together. I should have known that the Slider Truck would never disappoint. Another great touch was the Stussy branded buns, specially made for the event by Destructo Iron Works. For all of you that couldn’t make it, I’m afraid you missed out. The Stussy Sliders were exclusive for the event, and will be discontinued indefinitely. However, I’m sure we can look forward to more special sliders from the Slider Truck in the future, in addition to their delicious regular menu items. Overall, it was a great event by Stussy and, as always, great food from the Slider Truck. Congratulations to Stussy Las Vegas for 2 years strong.

A T T I C

During a time when streetwear/sneaker shops open and go out of business as fast, and as often, as Jordan retroes drop, its hard to find a store that can withstand the test of time. Attic in Buena Park, CA has been going strong since 2006. They have been one of my favorite shops since they opened, and I always make sure to stop by whenever I’m in Orange County. Always supplying the OC with all the top streetwear brands and sneakers, including everything from The Hundreds to Crooks & Castles, and Nike to Creative Recreations. They definitely have some of the biggest and best sales throughout the year, including their huge annual Black Friday sale. But they also have sales for just about anything, such as a Lakers win or for any random reason. Attic is one of the top shops in Cali, and by far the best Clothing/Sneaker store in Orange County. Like RIF, Attic is another store that is truly devoted to their customers, and they frequently hold crazy events at the shop, such as last year’s Orisue x Attic “Bottoms Up Balls Down” Beer Pong Tournament with the grand prize being $200 cash and $200 in Orisue product. And most recently, they had an NBA 2k10 Challenge against one of their employees for 20% off your entire purchse. Attic is constantly finding new ways to keep their store fresh and ahead of the game. Good people, great shop. Definitely a must stop spot if you’re ever in the area.

CiCi's $5 Pizza Buffet

image

If you live in California, I know you’ve seen those CiCi’s Pizza Buffet commercials, and, as your stomach’s growling, think, “I’ve never seen a CiCi’s in my life.” I know I did on many occasions, but luckily for me, they actually have a few in Las Vegas. I finally got a chance to go to one for the first time, and it was everything that I expected from a pizza buffet. Of course they had a large assortment of pizzas, including the usual cheese, pepperoni, and sausage, but also Hawaiian, Buffalo Chicken, BBQ chicken, and Macaroni and Cheese among others. Ya, macaroni and cheese pizza, it wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t as awesome as it sounds. The quality of the pizza is about up to par with the DiGiorno’s that you make at home, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. They also had pasta, breadsticks, salads, and a few desserts. The pasta was good, and the breadsticks were great, but I didn’t get a chance to try the salad. Overall, the experience was good and I’m sure I’ll be back sometime soon. At $5/person (drinks aren’t included) you can’t really go wrong.

Naturally Vintaged

Nike Dunk High 2004

With Nike’s frequent use of faux vintaging on recent releases, I was reminded of how we used to make shoes look worn out. By wearing them. The yellowing of the midsole, the creases and scuffs, the slight fraying of stitching, that’s all me. I’m not going to lie, I like many of the vintage models that Nike has released, but there is just something so great about wearing out a pair of shoes yourself. Something that just feels right, like your favorite pair of jeans.

Nike SB 2011 Preview

image

It looks like we have a lot to look forward to from Nike SB in 2011. They recently previewed a display of upcoming releases at Bright Tradeshow, in Berlin. Nike SB seems to have played with the materials used on many of the new releases, including gum soled Bruin’s and Janoski’s, in addition to a canvas Dunk High and leather Omar Salazar’s. Not to mention the unfortunate “Safari” Dunk Low, that was recently leaked. Keep an eye out for these releases and others during the Spring and Summer of 2011.

Barcelona Tapas & Bar

image

I want to start off by saying, I am not a fan of the idea of tapas in general. I’m the type of guy that thinks, “If I pay a little extra, can I get a bigger portion?” I get it, it’s social food, meant to be appreciated and conversed over, not scarfed down as I usually do. I guess it’s just not for me, but I digress. Rambling aside, I recently ate at Barcelona Tapas & Bar in Southern Highlands (SoHi). The food was actually pretty good. I won’t comment on the portion size because my girlfriend reminded me that they were tapas, and that was how small they’re supposed to be. I tried the shrimp ceviche, albondigas (meat balls), pan fried dates (almond stuffed dates, wrapped in bacon, Merlot reduction, blue cheese crumbles), and seared scallops. The pan fried dates were by far the best, and a definite must try. The other dishes were good, but nothing extraordinary. Also, their menu is 50% off during lunch daily, so it is definitely worth a try, especially if you like tapas.

Lebron-A-Thon

image

Lebron goes to the Miami Heat! I know this is a little off topic for the blog, but I had to comment on this crazy event. Most importantly, I feel sorry, not just for Cleveland, but for the state of Ohio. He was their “Savior.” Their best chance at beating the curse. I agree that he made the best choice for himself, to put himself in a position to be a Championship competitor right now. However, it was almost humiliating the way he went at the whole free agency. Not only did we all have to endure the week long “Lebron-A-Thon,” but the worst part is how he announced his final decision. Numerous analysts commented the day before the announcement, “I don’t think Lebron would hold an hour long press conference just to break Cleveland’s heart.” Well, sorry Cleveland, he did. Even when Kevin Garnett left the Timberwolves, he explained his situation and came to an agreement with management before asking to be traded. I don’t blame Cleveland for burning his jerseys. I mean, we probably would’ve done it to Kobe if he left a few years ago too, and I know many Angelinos that still can’t stand Shaq for leaving.

On the basketball side of things, I don’t think having Lebron, Wade, and Bosh necessarily makes them the favorite to win it either (I still think Bosh is overrated). They still have to make it through the East, where Orlando is still solid and Boston brought everyone back for one more run. And as much as I hate to admit it, Boston is still a great team. And honestly, I just don’t think you can consider them the favorites as long as Kobe is still playing. However, it will lead to very exciting basketball though. I can only imagine what Miami Heat ticket sales will be like. Only time will tell how this whole thing plays out. Good luck to Lebron and D. Wade, you guys deserve to win. And good luck to Cleveland.

*On a shoe side of things, I’m sure we can look forward to many Miami themed colorways of Lebron VIII’s.

My Just Desserts

I recently had some family in town, and it only felt right to treat them to the “Best Buffet in Las Vegas.” The Studio B Buffet at M Resort, Spa & Casino. This was not my first time eating here, so I knew what I was in for. I could write on and on about all the different types of food and how delicious everything was, or I could have flooded this post with countless pictures of all the amazing food. However, I chose not to. None of it would do it justice, it just couldn’t possibly convey how incredible this buffet is. Do yourself a favor, and experience it for yourself. It’s the only way you’d understand.

*On a side note, the beer and wine are included with the Buffet, so you really can’t go wrong.

Re.In.Force. Los Angeles

image

Hidden in Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles, lies the best sneaker consignment store you haven’t heard of. It is the highly underrated RIF Los Angeles. RIF is the best sneaker store, and my favorite, for 2 reasons. First, they discourage they’re consigners from overpricing their shoes. Nobody wants jacked up prices on over-hyped shoes. This is beneficial on both sides because it helps the shoes sell quicker, and the buyers get the shoes they want without over paying. Second, they are one of the only consignment stores that sell worn shoes. Some people may not like the idea of buying used shoes, but if I can get a pair of ‘99 black/red Jordan IV’s that were worn once, for a few hundred dollars cheaper than what I would pay for a deadstock pair, that’s fine with me.

image

RIF is short for ReInForce, and reinforcing Los Angeles is exactly what they’re doing there. Constantly giving back to the community, they are always accepting shoe donations for the LA Mission. You might even see them on skid row handing out the shoes directly to those who need them. They are truly devoted to their customers and consigners alike. RIF is a sneaker store for sneaker lovers. Good people, great shop, always representing LA to the fullest. If you love sneakers, RIF is the place to go.

Music Monday - J. Cole Feature

I was never a huge J. Cole fan. In a day in age when labels are cranking out one hit wonders like its going out of style, I’m always hesitant to believe any new artist is the real deal.

However, there are some exceptions. One of which, is Kid Cudi (Cudi will get a full post soon as well).

Another exception, that I only recently came to realize, is J. Cole. The more songs he comes out with, the more I become a fan. His style is reminiscent of Pre-College Dropout Kanye. Solid lyrics, and just flat out feel good music. I challenge you to listen to this song and try not to bump it the rest of the summer. Impossible. It’s been on repeat in my car for the past 2 weeks. I didn’t think I’d admit it, but J. Cole is serious, and expect big things from him in the near future.

Capriotti's

image

If you like sandwiches, Capriotti’s is a must try. They are best known for their world famous “”Bobbie,” which is made up of turkey (roasted daily), mayo, homemade stuffing, and cranberry sauce. It is definitely a taste of Thanksgiving in every bite (although I wish they had gravy in it). I have just about tried every sandwich they have on their menu, and from someone that really enjoys sandwiches, I can honestly say, they are all solid. However, my two favorites are the Cheese Steak and the Capastrami, which is their play on the traditional pastrami. The Capastrami alone would keep me a loyal customer for life. It is hands down the best pastrami sandwich I’ve ever eaten. I know I’m going to be given a hard time for this, but I would even go as far to say that it’s better than The Hat in California. Ya, I said it. I guess the reason I like the Capistrami so much is because it is different from the typical pastrami. It consists of hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. Besides the pastrami itself being delicious, I think it’s the coleslaw with the Russian dressing that sets this sandwich so far above the others. The flavors are so perfect together, that each bite melts in  your mouth. Luckily for me they opened a location down the street from my house, and also one in the same plaza as Undefeated and Stussy Las Vegas. Next time you’re picking up some shoes or clothes, make sure to stop by. you won’t be disappointed.

Nike Dunk Low SB "Safari"

image

Pictures of these surfaced on the interweb a few days ago. When I first saw the titles of “Safari” Nike SB across the usual blogs, I admit, I was pleasantly optimistic. How could you go wrong? Return of the “fat tongue” - check, Safari print - check. Then I saw the pictures. Somewhere along the way, Nike SB seemed to dropped the ball on this one. Maybe it’s the color combination, or maybe the placement of the safari print. Whatever it is, I’m not likely to pick these up. Hopefully, Nike SB will make some adjustments to these before they release. No release date has been set as of yet.
